| Converting to ClearCase: |
I already have projects using , how do I convert them? If you're committed to using ClearCase for software configuration management, we can help you get the ball rolling. We can consolidate your existing development environments to an enterprise-wide ClearCase solution or help you start using ClearCase from scratch. If your projects are using another tool such as Visual SourceSafe, CVS, PVCS, SCCS, RCS we can help you preserve all of your existing versions, tags, comments and other meta-data in ClearCase. Then we can architect and implement an environment mimicking the current one as closely as possible. Make whatever improvements you may like. Or we can help you architect a new solution that better suits your needs. Not using any configuration management tool right now? We can help you get your source code under control. We can implement a customized UCM solution or something more flexible by customizing base ClearCase. We'll archive your old releases and provide a development environment for bug fixes, if necessary. You can base your current development on an old release, or start with a blank slate. Documentation and training for users, team leads and administrators will be provided as part of the conversion to ClearCase. |
| UCM vs. non-UCM implementations: |
Need to better understand the pros and cons of UCM ? ClearCase is distributed as an open-acess database repository with some basic security and permissions features. ClearCase UCM wraps base ClearCase with a standardized set of industry best practices relative to SCM. Branching, branch-hierarchies, promotion models, baselining (labels / tags) and software maturity levels are all integrated into ClearCase UCM. But is it a good fit for your software development process? While ClearCase UCM does provide a very useful out-of-the-box solution for ClearCase usage in small-to-medium sized development organizations, it may not meet all of your needs. The tool - and the architecture and infrastructure set up around it - should conform to, and supplement, your software development process. Experienced in developing and deploying customized base ClearCase, basic ClearCase UCM, and customized ClearCase UCM solutions, we understand the potential long term and short term benefits of each to your organization. We can help point out the strengths and weaknesses of each approach when it comes to supporting your current software development process. Don't get started on the wrong foot. Take a step back and follow a well-balanced approach to enhancing your process. |
